- W2388566124 abstract "The present paper has engaged in an investigation of the effects of various sulphate (SO2-4) mass concentrations on the performance of anaerobic granular sludge in a batch-experimental way. For this purpose,we have done a series of intermittent experiments taking glucose as the carbon content,NH4Cl as that of nitrogen and KH2PO4 as that of phosphor so as to gain the microorganisms of SO42- from the sodium sulfate. The results of our intermittent experiments prove that SO2-4 mass concentrations are expected to have both positive and negative effects on the performance of the anaerobic granular sludge. For example, when SO42- mass concentrations were lower than 3000mg/L,with the mass concentration ratio of COD and SO2-4 (ω(COD)/ω(SO2-4)) being more than 2.7,the concentration of the sulphate seems to have no effect on the effluent volatile fatty acid (VFA). Moreover, the systematic alkalinity and the methanogenic activity of the anaerobic granular sludge tends to get enhanced with the increase of SO2-4 mass concentrations. Further proofs also indicate that, when SO2-4 mass concentration was higher than 3 000 mg/L while ω(COD)/ω(SO2-4) was less than 2.7,the system would be badly effected. Our intermittent experiments have also shown that the increase of the effluent VFA tends to inhibit the specific methanogenic activity of the sludge, particularly, with the increase of the SO42- mass concentration. Nevertheless, when the organic loading rate of granular sludge was 4 kg COD·m-3·d-1,that of ω(COD)/ω(SO2-4) was equal to 2.74 with the mass concentration of SO42- being 2 0003 000 mg·L-1,the system would be likely to enter into the best operative state, with the removing rate of the organic compound becoming stabled over 85%. Besides, the effluent alkalinity was over 2 500 mg·L-1 and the effluent VFA was lower than 200 mg·L-1,the methanogenic activity of the sludge might be expected to reach the maximum,at the same time, the removing rate of SO42- may also be expected to reach its best effect. Thus,it can be concluded from our experiments that the best anaerobic granular sludge was expected to be obtained from an operating anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) with the parameters of treating wastewater with high-strength sulphate." @default.
