- W2389516133 abstract "Objective To determine plasma levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proB NP) in healthy newborns as control group and to establish a reference range of N T-proBNP.In addition, variation of plasma concentrations of NT-proBNP was inve stigated in newborns with asphyxia. Methods Venous blood samples were taken in 41 controls and in 33 newborns with asphyxia to measure NT-proBNP by a competitive enzyme immunoassay (EIA). CK-MB, lactute delry drogenase 1(LDH 1) and cardiac troponin I (CTnI) were measured i n mean time in asphyxia group. Results NT-proBNP levels in control showed a negative correlation with age (r=-0.7 35 P0.0001).Plasma levels of NT-proBNP in control group 14 d (n=28)( 2479.82±1400.01)fmol/mL, and it decreased to (371.54±147.40)fmol/mL after 2 we eks.Plasma NT-proBNP levels in newborns ≥14 d showed no significant change w ith age.In asphyxia group,plasma NT-proBNP levels was significantly higher than those in control group:(3924±1030)fmol/mL vs.(3192±1486)fmol/mL(t=1.979 P0.05).Plasma NT-proBNP levels was significantly higher in the severely as phyxiated infants(Apgar score≤3,n=10) than those of mild cases (Apgar score 4-7 ,n=23):(4228±1087)fmol/mL vs.(3540±992)fmol/mL (t=3.17 P0.01).Th e im pact of plasma levels of LDH 1 and CTnI on plasma levels of NT-proBNP were sig nificant and their relations were satisfactory with the equation:NT-proBNP=1202 +1.46×LDH 1+409×CTnI (F=40.7 P0.0001).Conclusions For control group,plasma NT-proBNP levels show a negative correlation with a ge;Plasma concentrations of NT-proBNP are significantly higher in the first 2 w eeks after born,and sharply decrease to steady levels in the following 2 weeks.I ncreased plasma NT-proBNP levels may reflect the severity of the impairment of cardiac function and myocardial damage in newborns with asphyxia.
