• W2389947658 abstract "Objective To analyze and summarize the characteristics of malaria epidemic in Shenzhen City from 1980 to 2011.And provide evidences for the elimination of malaria in Shenzhen City.Methods The data used in this article were from the summaries of malaria control in Shenzhen City and the Disease Reporting Information System of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of malaria cases reported by the network system in Shenzhen City from 1980 to 2011.Patients of clinically diagnosed malaria,suspected malaria,cold and fever,and fever of unknown causes were examined by blood smear.The rate of residents carrying plasmodium was investigated by blood smear.The rate of natural sporozoite infection was investigated by man bait.Mosquitoes would be captured in a fixed place and fixed time(all night from 8 PM to next day 8 AM).The salivary glands of Anopheles mosquitoes were dissected.Results A total of 41 680 malaria cases were reported in Shenzhen City from 1980 to 2011,with an annual mean incidence of 35.63 per 100 thousand and annual mean cases of 1 303.There were 41 567 cases of Vivax malaria,53 cases of Falciparum malaria,and 60 cases of unclassified malaria.The most malaria cases were 7 427 reported in 1984.The highest annual incidence can be reached 1 833.37 per 100 thousand.The least malaria cases were 18 reported in 2006 and with the lowest annual incidence of 0.24 per 100 thousand.There were cases reported every month in the whole year.During June to October,totally 28 796 cases were reported(69.09% of 41 680 cases).The ratio of male to female cases was 13.67∶ 1.The age distribution was concentrated mainly in 20-45 years old(81.65%,34 030/41 680 cases).The professional survey results of 8 714 malaria patients showed that the occupation of construction workers had the most cases,accounting for 28.55%(2 488/8 714) of the total cases.The second occupation was brick makers,accounting for 17.33%(1 510/8 714) of the total cases.The third was planting and breeding workers,accounting for 16.64%(1 450/8 714) of the total cases.For the malaria surveillance of 1980-2011 in Shenzhen City,1 401 536 persons received blood examination and 38 579 were found Plasmodium positive,with a positive rate of 2.75%.The survey of resident protozoon rate from 1980 to 1998,39 941 persons received blood examination and 823 were found Plasmodium positive,with a positive rate of 2.06%.The rates of natural sporozoite infection on An.anthropophagus of 1985and 1987 were 0.54% and 0.35%.Conclusion The number of malaria cases in Shenzhen City decreased from 1980 to 2011 year by year.The age group of 20-45 year-old and construction workers were the main age and occupation of malaria cases.The malaria cases were imported and remained stable.More than 30 years of experience in the prevention and control of malaria in Shenzhen City proved that the works of prevention and control of malaria can be strengthened by the government and the public health administrative departments.The malaria epidemic outbreak caused by a large number of floating population influx and import malaria cases can be controlled successfully." @default.
