- W2390358638 abstract "Objective To determine the possible differences in the ability of the tone recognition of speech by hearing-impaired children with cochlear implants and hearing aids; to study the effects of the factors of cochlear implant switch-on time, enrollment time, age and gender of hearing-impaired children on the tone recognition of speech. Methods Sixty-one hearing-impaired children aged 3～6, 31 children with cochlear implants and 30 with hearing aids, were evaluated with oclosed-set tone testoof Evaluation of Auditory Responses to Speech (EARS). The results were analyzed with SPSS software. Results Hearing-impaired children with hearing aids performed better than those with cochlear implants in the test; cochlear implant switch-on time had no apparent effect on the test scores while the scores increased with increasing enrollment time and age. No gender effects were noted on the test scores. Conclusion Type of hearing devices, enrollment time, age and other factors can affect the ability of the tone recognition. These factors may interact with each other, thus requiring further studies." @default.
