- W2391152997 abstract "Zeolites with less than 10A pores are desirable membrane materials, due to their crystallinity, resistance to high temperatUre, and chemical inertness. In this paper, the synthesis and some properties of.pure ZSM-5 zeolite membrane on the porous support by hydrothermal method are reported, meanwhile theresults of separation of ethanol / water mixtures on pervaporation are discussed. First, a silica intermediate layer was prepared on a porous ceramic tube support with an average pore diameter of 2μm by sol-gel technique from hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). The effeCts of temperature,PH and other factors on hydrolysis of TEOS were studied. A hydrogel with a molar composition of 8.3 NaO-92SiO2-A12O3-18n-Butylamine-3772H2O was prepared from aluminium sulphate, water glass (28.1wt-% silica, 8.65 wt-% sodium oxide), sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid, deionic water and n-butylamine.Then it was transferred to a 200 ml stainless steel autoclave. The tube with intermediate silica layer was PlaCed in the autoclave and was heated in an air-heated oven at 170℃ for 48h. After crystallization underautogenous pressure without stirring, the autoclave was cooled down, and the support was recovered. Thezeolite membrane on the support was washed with deionized water and dried at 100℃. After then the zeolite membrane was calcined at 540t for 8h in order to decompose the template occluded in the zeoliteframework.SEM of the surface and the cross section of the zeolite membrane on the porous support show that the surface was formed of aggregated crystals of 2μm. The average thickness of the membrane was 12 μm. XRDand IR of the crushed membrane identified that the crystals are ZSM-5 zeolites. The pervaporationmeasurements were Performed on a standard Pervaporation apparatus. The effects of temperature, feed concentration, vacuum degree of down stream on the separation factor and flux were investigated The results show that ZSM-5 zeolite membrane can be used to separation ethanol / water, the separation factor is as high as 15 and the flux can reach 0.46 kg / m2' h. Although it is not clear at present time whether the separation of ethanol / water take place by transport through the zeolite pores, the high hydrophobic character of ZSM-5 zeolite seems to enhance the selective sorption of ethanol into the membrane, resulting in the high separation factor.(Correspondent:FAN Shuanshl,Department of Petrochemical Englneerlpg,Dallan University of Technology,Dallan116012)" @default.
