- W2391188850 abstract "Objective To observe the effects of different doses of KI intake on bioehemical remarks of bone turnover in Wistar's rats and to investigate the mechanism and characteristics of iodine on bone metablism. Methods Wistar's rats models of high- and low-iodine intake for 6,12 months were used, and biochemical remarks including serum osteocalcin (BGP), urine deoxypyridinoline (U-DPD)/Creating ratio were observed. The experimental groups were compared with normal control group completed. Results After 6 months of low-iodine intake, serum concentration of bone formation markers were significantly decreased and urine concentration of bone absorptive markers were significantly increased in both male and female rats in the experimental groups comparing with the controls. The bone absorption was more than bone formation. After 6 months of high-iodine intake, either serum BGP or urine DPD/Cr showed difference between the groups. After 12 months of high-iodine intake, serum BGP in male rats increased, whereas decreased in female rats without significant difference comparing with the controls. Conclusions Iodine deficiency might lead to abnormal changes of bone metabolism, and the rate of bone absorption is eventually great than bone formation.Because the peak value of bone quantity in male rats presents later than the female ones,long-term high-iodine intake has minimal effect on male rats and its effect on female rats various according to the different doses.Long-term intake of high dose of iodine has serious effect on bone metabolism with the potential of resulting in bone loss." @default.
