- W2391310010 abstract "In this paper, morphological characters of adults and tadpoles of Rana sauteri group including Rsauteri Boulenger (1909) and Rmultidenticulata Chou and Lin (1997) from Taiwan, China are studied,The morphological characters are compared with the species of its related genera, Pseudorana, Hylarana, Rana and Amolops. Tadpoles of the two species from Taiwan are found with a large abdominal sucker which similar to that of tadpole of Amolops, while Rana, Pseudoran and Hylaran lack the sucker. This indicates that tadpoles of Rana sauteri group neither belong to Rana and Pseudorana, nor to Hylarana, they are more closed to Amolops. Rana sauteri group should be considered putting into Amolopinae. Subfamily Amolopinae is classified into four genera Amo, Amolops, Huia and Meristogenys. The characters of the Rana sauteri group and the four genera of Amolopinae are compared. Tadpoles of Rana sauteri and Rana multidenticulata have gland groups only on lower belly, and their ventral sucker are not as perfect as those of Amolopinae; of adults, tympanum distinct, discs of digits small, toes with lateroventral grooves, digits without horizontal sunkens on dorsoside, a dark triangular spot on temporal region. The tadpoles and adults of the Rana sauteri group apparently differ from all members of the four genera in Amolopinae, therefore, it is suggested that the two species of Rana sauteriand Rana multidenticulata should be established as a new genus of Amolopinae, ie. Pseudoamolops. The phylogenetic relationships of the new genus and its related genera are analyzed. Pseudoamolops gen. nov. Type species: Rana sauteri Boulenger, 1909. Diagnosis: Body narrowed and long. Head longer than width, tympanum distinct. Vomerine developed. Dorsolateral folds thin and narrow; tips of fingers slightly enlarged; finger and toe discs small with lateroventral groove; outer metatarsal web well developed, digits without horizontal grooves dorsoside; dorsal bodyusually orange red or yellow brown, temporal region with a dark triangular spot. Tadpoles with strong horny beaks in mouth; lower labial papillae 2 rows, the outer one not beard like and not lacking papillae in the middle; upper labial teeth Ⅱ~Ⅳ∶3+3~4+4,lower labial teeth Ⅳ~Ⅸ∶1+1;a large ventral sucker present on abdomen, the posterior edge only weakly raised, diaphragmatobranchialis medialis and Ushaped band of keratinized material absent; spiraculum on the left, with free tube; gland groups not observed behind eyes and found only on outer sides of lower belly. The egg animal pole gray, plant pole creamy yellow, egg masses attached beneath the rocks in the stream. This genus includes two species: Pseudoamolops sauteri (Boulenger, 1909) and P. multidenticulata (Chou and Lin,1997),found only in Taiwan, China, till now." @default.
