- W2391896189 abstract "The article is inclined to study the successful application of the improved risk based inspection technology for pressure vessels on the offshore platforms. The said improved risk based inspection technology is in keeping with the explicit risk based principles,which means that it is cost-effective to allow some systems to fail as long as the consequence grade of that failure is sufficient low,while some systems with very high and even unacceptable consequence grade of failure,should also receive attention despite low probabilities of failure. To achieve the said goal,we have worked out the following measures: First of all,the gradual model was introduced when the damage resulted in a local or general wall thinning of the component. Secondly,the pressure vessels should be separated in the main hydrocarbon system and utility system,for even a minute leak in the main hydrocarbon system would like to spoil the integrity of the installation,while a leak in the utility system is prone to render the whole installation system unsuitable for normal operation. Therefore,it is necessary to choose lower acceptable risk for the main hydrocarbon system than for utility system. And,thirdly,it is recommended to modify the enterprise risk matrix by transforming the limit Po Flimitof acceptable failure rate,which should be able to be identified for each pressure vessel component according to its risk grade. And,finally,it is also necessary to take into full account all kinds of the uncertainties in different links of the risk assessment system and time-to-inspection of pressure vessel components. Therefore,we have managed to accomplish the actual study with the help of the improved RBI method than with the original method based on the deterministic design and fitness-for-service codes in the aspect of safety and cost reduction. Furthermore,it is also for the above said goals that we have inspected 22 out of 146 components of the pressure vessels with the particular damage mechanism optimized by their inspection frequencies,that is to say,we have extended the inspection intervals of the 15 components,but cut short the other 7 ones. The reason why most inspection links are to be modified is that such inspections should be done in accordance with the explicit risk based principles. Nearly all the 22 components are related to the atmospheric corrosion and corrosion under the insulation,whose corrosion rate usually tends to be much higher than the other components with the other damage mechanisms." @default.
