Interpreted in the light of this concept,literature is no longer a mere branch of art,but is entrusted with the task of reforming society and shaping life.Thus literature has acquired a supreme position and with the Romantics,the cult of art,which prevailed throughout Germany in the 18th century,became the doctrine of the supremacy of literature.This article attempts to interpret the causes that led to this doctrine from the angle of cultural history and the revolution in reading in the second half of the 18th century in Germany,in order to identify the correlation between Romantic theories of poetry and their cultural context." @default.
