- W2392927955 abstract "Objective To observe the effect of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) therapy on newborn infants of Rh hemolytic disease. Methods IVIG group (n=14) received conventional treatments including albumin administration and phototherapy with additional IVIG therapy at a daily dose of 400 mg/kg given for 1～5 consecutive days,and control group (n=16) only received conventional treatments. Effects were compared between the two groups. Result There were 25 patients with hyperbilirubinemia caused by Rh hemolytic disease received exchange transfusions. IVIG was infused in 12 cases,100% of them had the total serum bilirubin level dropped down during the treatment before the exchange transfusions, vs 5 (38%) of 13 cases in control group (P0.01).Also the percentage of the rebound of the bilirubin level on the next day after the exchange transfusions was 0% in IVIG group vs 58% in control group (P0.05). Late anemia beyond 28 days of age could be seen in 5 cases in IVIG group, but none in control group. Conclusion Although IVIG administration may be efficacious in the treatment of immune hemolytic hyperbilirubinemia of newborn due to Rh incompatibility, it cannot replace the exchange transfusion in severe cases. If it is applied as early as the diagnosis is established, the frequency of exchange transfusion can be reduced. Follow-up of the late anemia should be done periodically after the first month of life." @default.
