- W2393839067 abstract "Objective To explore the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in pediatric adenoidal hypertrophy through analyzing the MRI manifestation. Methods The axial T1WI and sagittal T2WI I MRI was performed in 46 children with suspected adenoid hypertrophy. The thickness of adenoidal hypertrophy(A), adenoid/nasopharyngeal cavity(A/N) ratio and nasopharyngeal vent size(PAS) were measured in the MR-SE T1WI median sagittal plane. These children were divided into two groups according to the postoperative pathologic results: adenoidal hypertrophy group(study group, n=31) and non-adenoidal hypertrophy group(control group, n=15). MRI features were compared between the two groups. Results MRI showed posterior nasopharyngeal wall thickening of soft tissue and nasopharyngeal narrowing. Adenoidal hypertrophy showed homogeneous and moderate intensity on T1WI and slightly high signal intensity on T2WI. The A/N ratio and PAS were, respectively, 0.746 7±0.050 0 and(4.983 ±1.270) mm in study group, and 0.593 5 ±0.068 0 and(7.894 ±1.630) mm in control group. There were significant differences between the two groups(P0.01). ROC curve analysis showed A/N0.67 and PAS6.5 mm could be used as the critical values in the diagnosis of adenoidal hypertrophy. Conclusion MRI can make an accurate quantification in the diagnosis of adenoidal hypertrophy, provide comprehensive and intuitionistic imaging information, and contribute to developing more effective treatments." @default.
