- W2393840280 abstract "The behavior of fiber sheet (FS) confined square and rectangular concrete columns under axial compressive force and the FS confinement mechanism were studied by tests of 29 FS confined concrete columns and 2 reference concrete columns and by three dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. Two failure modes of FS confined concrete column, i.e. axial load diagonal shear failure and axial compression failure, were observed in the test. The complete axial compressive stress strain curve of FS confined concrete can be classified into three types. The FS confinement effect is weakened due to the increase of the ratio of section length to width. Confining with carbon fiber sheets (CFS) alone is more advantageous to the peak stress enhancement of concrete than confining with both CFS and glass fiber sheet (GFS). While the hybrid confinement has more advantage of the deformation enhancement of concrete when GFS is wrapped not less than one layer. When the axial compressive stress is large than 0.6-0.8 times of peak stress, the tensile strain of FS and the confinement effect on the concrete increases rapidly. The largest tensile strain of FS and the largest horizontal stress of concrete are at the section corners. The section of concrete can be divided into a strongly confined region with a three dimensional compressive stress state and a weakly confined region with a nearly two dimensional compressive stress state. The larger the ratio of corner s radius to half of the section length is, the larger the area of strongly confined region will be. The FS confinement index value has no effect on the area of the strongly confined region, but it has effect on the horizontal stress of concrete, the larger the FS confinement index value is, the larger the horizontal stress of concrete will be." @default.
