• W2400156680 abstract "To what extent does the spatial layout of a classroom affect the activities conducted in that setting? Five different layouts were examined in this study to address that question. Perceptions of how classroom spatial layouts differ in the way they influence teaching and learning activities were elicited from primary teachers and evaluated in terms of their educational perspectives. They were uncovered by assessing teachers’ beliefs about properties of various spatial designs, evaluating their spatial layout preferences, and by evoking their comments about the relative merits each layout has with respect to facilitating the conduct of activities in the classroom. The information collected in this way was evaluated and integrated with the use of similarity coefficients, q-mode factor analysis, and multi-dimensional scaling. Results from the case study strongly suggest that teachers perceive the influences exerted by various classroom spatial layouts on teaching and learning activities to differ, but their perceptions of such differences are clearly qualified by their educational perspectives." @default.
