• W2402456332 abstract "This paper studies the impacts that infrastructure improvements have on agriculture and food industry in South Ostrobothnia, the region relatively most involved in the food chain related industries in Finland. Simultaneously, effects on the whole region and its rural and urban parts are considered. A bi-regional, rural-urban Social Accounting Matrix was built in order to reflect the economic structure of the region. The SAM was used as a base data for a Computable General Equilibrium model. Two shocks: efficiency improvement of the transportation sectors and a cost cut of the transportation costs of each industry were carried out. The results suggest that all the measures decreasing transportation and other infrastructure related costs are favourable for the food industry and agriculture in South Ostrobothnia. Agriculture and food industries attained relatively higher benefits from the infrastructure improvements compared with the local industries on average. The results further indicate that especially efficiency improvements of transportatio n sector boost local economy and improve the relative economic position of the region." @default.
