Of these 63 patients 10 were subsequently diagnosed as having transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate. Five of the 10 patients had no tumor remaining in the bladder at diagnosis of transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate. In 3 patients tumor in the prostate was more invasive than tumor in the bladder. In 2 patients tumor involvement was greater in the bladder than in the prostate. Patients undergoing treatment with intravesical therapy for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, especially those receiving multiple courses for prolonged periods, should be monitored closely for the development of transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate. © 1988 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByPatel A, Cohn J, Abd El Latif A, Miocinovic R, Steinberg G, Paner G and Hansel D (2018) Validation of New AJCC Exclusion Criteria for Subepithelial Prostatic Stromal Invasion from pT4a Bladder Urothelial CarcinomaJournal of Urology, VOL. 189, NO. 1, (53-58), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2013.SOLSONA E, IBORRA I, RICÓS J, MONRÓS J, RUBIO J and ALMENAR S (2018) Clinical Panurothelial Disease in Patients with Superficial Bladder Tumors: Therapeutic ImplicationsJournal of Urology, VOL. 167, NO. 5, (2007-2011), Online publication date: 1-May-2002.Solsona E, Iborra I, Ricos J, Monros J, Casanova J and Almenar S (2018) The Prostate Involvement As Prognostic Factor in Patients with Superficial Bladder TumorsJournal of Urology, VOL. 154, NO. 5, (1710-1713), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1995.Schellhammer P, Ladaga L and Moriarty R (2018) Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin for Treatment of Superficial Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Prostatic Urethra in Association With Carcinoma of the BladderJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 1, (53-56), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1995.Sakamoto N, Tsuneyoshi M, Naito S and Kumazawa J (2018) An Adequate Sampling of the Prostate to Identify Prostatic Involvement by Urothelial Carcinoma in Bladder Cancer PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 149, NO. 2, (318-321), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1993.Matzkin H, Soloway M and Hardeman S (2018) Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the ProstateJournal of Urology, VOL. 146, NO. 5, (1207-1212), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1991.Hardeman S and Soloway M (2018) Urethral Recurrence Following Radical CystectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 144, NO. 3, (666-669), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1990.Terris M, Villers A and Freiha F (2018) Transrectal Ultrasound Appearance of Transitional Cell Carcinoma Involving the ProstateJournal of Urology, VOL. 143, NO. 5, (953-956), Online publication date: 1-May-1990.Montie J (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 144, NO. 3, (669-669), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1990.
