- W2410365905 abstract "To the Editor;Needless to say, Congress should be addressed to help both children and adults regarding obesity.[1] I believe that those at fault in this dilemma are the fast-food companies who “macro-size” everything for a small difference in cost. Everyone today wants to save money with the cost of gasoline, but “super-sizing” a meal gives you a full day's worth of calories and more with the worst kind of foods you could eat. A super-sized Whopper has a grand amount of fat and cholesterol; the super-sized French fries are super-salty; and the 20-plus ounces of soda gives you as much sugar as you would have in one day. Even the “fish sandwich,” which should be healthy, is fried and drowned with tartar sauce. The American public is not getting more for its money, it's getting more weight for the money and having more health problems: obesity, prediabetes and diabetes, as well as high cholesterol, triglycerides, and heart problems. Once you've gained this “excess baggage” you can't get rid of it even with exercise. The President as well as the health organizations need to educate the people as to “what” a portion is, and then get the big sellers to reduce the size of their meals. They should also offer an incentive which would include a healthy option of fruit as a dessert rather than an artificial ice cream product with added flavorings and calories.I certainly hope Congress and the President can change the way Americans eat. We wolf down food to rush back to work, we don't eat slowly and we don't eat the right foods. And we don't have a clear idea of calories and how much there are in the products [that fast-food restaurants] sell. Today we need a constant reminder every day that what we put into our mouth has to be digested and used, and not merely collected in our bodies as fat.Thank you,Readers are encouraged to respond to George Lundberg, MD, Editor of MedGenMed, for the editor's eye only or for possible publication via email: ten.epacsdem@grebdnulg" @default.
