- W2413983242 abstract "Fast Probability Integration (FPI) methods are combined with the Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) procedure to formulate a new and efficient uncertainty analysis method for determining the extreme percentiles of output distributions for complex computer models. The methodology, called LHS-FPI, is applied to TRAC-PF1/MOD2, a best-estimate thermal hydraulic code, to evaluate 95{sup th} and 99.9{sup th} percentiles of peak cladding temperature during blowdown. The technique efficiently identifies extreme probability regions in which only a few code runs are required to determine the output percentiles. For the demonstration problem, only 21 TRAC-PF1/MOD2 runs were required to estimate the 95{sup th} percentile compared to the 138 runs required by the Code Scaling, Applicability and Uncertainty (CSAU) methodology. Only an additional 11 runs were required to estimate the 99.9{sup th} percentile which could not be estimated using the original CSAU methodology. At the 95{sup th} and 99.9{sup th} percentiles, respectively, the evaluations provide safety margins of 313 K and 195 K with respect to a specified safety criteria of 1477 K. Overall, the methodology results in a significant reduction in the level of effort and expense required by previous methods and facilitates the reproduciblity of results." @default.
