Strictures secondary to pull-through or transpubic urethroplasty are difficult to manage. The management of these strictures is reviewed in 21 children and 84 adults. Of the 105 patients 69 had been treated previously by a perineal pull-through technique and 36 by transpubic urethroplasty. A total of 18 patients (10 in the transpubic and 8 in the pull-through groups) whose results were fair or poor underwent internal urethrotomy with the Sachse knife as a complementary treatment after posterior urethroplasty. Internal urethrotomy provided good results in 8 patients (80 per cent) in the transpubic group and 5 (62.5 per cent) in the pull-through group. None of the patients was incontinent and there was no symptomatic urinary infection postoperatively. © 1989 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byKORAITIM M (2018) ON THE ART OF ANASTOMOTIC POSTERIOR URETHROPLASTY: A 27-YEAR EXPERIENCEJournal of Urology, VOL. 173, NO. 1, (135-139), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2005.CORRIERE J (2018) 1-STAGE DELAYED BULBOPROSTATIC ANASTOMOTIC REPAIR OF POSTERIOR URETHRAL RUPTURE: : 60 PATIENTS WITH 1-YEAR FOLLOWUPJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 2, (404-407), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2001.WADHWA S, CHAHAL R, HEMAL A, GUPTA N, DOGRA P and SETH A (2018) MANAGEMENT OF OBLITERATIVE POSTTRAUMATIC POSTERIOR URETHRAL STRICTURES AFTER FAILED INITIAL URETHROPLASTYJournal of Urology, VOL. 159, NO. 6, (1898-1902), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1998.Morey A and McAninch J (2018) Reconstruction of Posterior Urethral Disruption Injuries: Outcome Analysis in 82 PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 157, NO. 2, (506-510), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1997.Roehrborn C and McConnell J (2018) Analysis of Factors Contributing to Success or Failure of 1-Stage Urethroplasty for Urethral Stricture DiseaseJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 4, (869-874), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1994.
