- W2415767749 abstract "Introduction: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease associated with aging initially characterized by motor impairments. However, non-motor impairments have been described, which expands the spectrum of manifestations of the disease, suggesting the involvement of sensory systems. In this context, hearing loss, also common to aging, may also make up the group of non-motor manifestations of PD. Objective: To describe hearing disorders in individuals with PD followed in an outpatient clinic. Methodology: For this study, it was used secondary data arising from a study carried out at the Neurology Department of Outpatient Complex Professor Magalhaes Neto at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, between January and August 2010. The results of tonal audiometry and research of short- and long-latency auditory evoked potentials were analyzed, as well as the data related to hearing complaints. Result: There is a high frequency of hearing complaints and alterations in at least one of the examinations performed. These alterations are frequent in all age ranges and are related to the advanced stage of the disease. The audiometric findings show greater prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss of sloping configuration in these individuals. Conclusion: The results reveal the presence of alterations in the central and peripheral auditory system in individuals with PD. The hearing loss in individuals with PD is similar to presbycusis." @default.
