• W2416397467 abstract "Twelve growing heifers were paired on the basis of breed, age and weight. One animal in each pair was implanted wtih an anabolic steroid, trienbolone acetate (300 mg). The animals were weighed and plasma samples taken at weekly intervals for eight weeks. The animals were fed a controlled diet related to their bodyweight. The mean liveweight gains of the animals were 62.2 kg and 36.6 kg for the implanted group and control group respectively. Each implanted animal gained more weight than its paired-control over four or eight weeks following implantation. The levels of plasma urea and albumin were significantly decreased during the second month after implantation. No changes were observed in the concentrations of plasma glucose, non-esterified free fatty acids, insulin, Mg2 +, Ca2 +, Pi and total protein.
