It is believed to be infectious in origin, secondary to a deficiency of intracellular lysosomal digestion, and heretofore considered a chronic problem. We report a case of malacoplakia of the bladder, which was treated successfully with a combination of bethanechol, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and ascorbic acid. © 1983 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byHurwitz G, Reimund E, Moparty K and Hellstrom W (2018) Bilateral Renal Parenchymal Malacoplakia: A Case ReportJournal of Urology, VOL. 147, NO. 1, (115-117), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1992.Long J and Althausen A (2018) Malacoplakia: A 25-Year Experience with a Review of the LiteratureJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 6, (1328-1331), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1989.Witherington R, Branan W, Wray B and Best G (2018) Malacoplakia Associated with Vesicoureteral Reflux and Selective Immunoglobulin a DeficiencyJournal of Urology, VOL. 132, NO. 5, (975-977), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1984.
