- W2419445028 abstract "The dynamic characteristics of the rack and pinion hydraulic power steering systemshave been investigated in the time domain and the frequency domain by usingmodelling, simulation and testing methods. A model of the hydraulic power steeringsystem and the numerical solution scheme were developed in order to obtain the timedomain responses of the system. For the frequency domain analysis, a state spacerepresentation of the system incorporating the dynamics of the mechanical andhydraulic subsystems was proposed and the system coefficient matrices were derived.A root searching method was developed to determine the natural frequencies andcorresponding modes of the steering system. Applications to a typical hydraulic powersteering system were conducted to validate the developed models and computationalschemes. The results obtained from the frequency domain analysis agreed well withthose obtained from the transient analysis. The examples illustrated the dynamiccoupling between the mechanical and hydraulic subsystems. In addition, the dynamiccharacteristics of the variable ratio rack and pinion steering system and the speedsensitive steering system were investigated.A hydraulic power steering system test rig, which provided an approximately realisticworking environment for the hydraulic steering system, was designed and built tovalidate the mathematical models. A series of experiments including the impact testingon the front wheel, the steering shudder testing and the pressure ripple testing werecarried out. The experimental results confirmed the presented modelling andsimulation analysis.The models and test rig may assist automotive engineers in performing theoreticalnoise and vibration analysis of the steering system for optimising its performance. Themodelling methods and numerical solution scheme which reveal the mechanical andhydraulic coupling action can be applied to the dynamics study of other complexmechanical/hydraulic systems." @default.
