Therefore, any debate about research field in Biomechanics should include the relation between research and graduate programs. Objective: Describe and analyze the scientific production and graduate studies related to Biomechanics in Brazil. Methods. We collected data at “Coordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal do Ensino Superior”, and “Conselho Nacional de Ciencia e Pesquisa” internet sites about biomechanics, research and graduate program. Information about individual scientific production was gathered by manual search at the Proceedings of the IV to the XII Brazilian Congress in Biomechanics. Results. About the faculties and research staff in Biomechanics, the number of doctors in research groups at South is twice the same amount observed in Middle-West, Northeast and North, and three times smaller than the same variable in Southeast. The Southeast Brazil has the highest number of top graduate programs, 18 for master degree and 18 for doctoral degree. The Middle West Brazil has two top graduate programs at both levels, while South Brazil has one top graduate program in each level. For the others sub regions, there is no top graduate programs. Conclusion. We found research groups and graduate programs across the country were biomechanical research is developed; however, there is not any doctoral graduate program with a research group in Biomechanics in North Brazil. Thus, it is necessary to reach a better regional distribution of faculties, and research groups." @default.
