- W243264934 abstract "ConclusionsWe have briefly glanced at some of the progress made during this decade in the field of electron-atom scattering and ionization calculations. To our mind the close-coupling formalism is adequate in obtaining highly accurate scattering amplitudes for the discrete transitions at all energies. Though the theory was designed specifically for such transitions it may be readily applied to ionization processes with substantial, but not complete success. We suspect that the close-coupling boundary conditions result in the SDCS converging to a step-function with increasing N. For finite calculations the CCC(N) results may be rescaled to the true SDCS, if known, yielding accurate magnitudes and angular distributions. The future for the close-coupling formalism is very bright. With recent experimental predictions confirming the accuracy of the theory the foundations are very solid and considerable effort may be applied with confidence to extend the formalism to incorporate ever more complicated targets of value to science and industry." @default.
