Pla demuestra la capacidad inagotable de su prosa para interesar al lector y sumergirlo en una sucesion de imagenes y de anecdotas supuestamente extraidas de la realidad. La novela se desarrolla en un tiempo casi abstracto que supera cualquier anecdota historica (son ausentes del libro cualquier referencia, por ejemplo, a la guerra civil espanola o a las condiciones impuestas por la dictadura franquista en la posguerra) para poder extraer mejor todo aquello que tiene de mas constante y perenne la condicion humana. Como supo ver el critico Joan Ferrate, en la obra de Pla: “Reside en lo cotidiano un prodigioso poder de nostalgia; en el se hace extraordinariamente intenso el sentimiento de dereliccion y soledad que empapa minuto tras minuto la vida del hombre.” La protagonista es la calle, entendida como un metodo de trabajo narrativo, casi como un verdadero cronotopo. Abstract: Josep Pla (1897-1981) is one of the few authors to understand that everyday life is a level of reality and it has an internal movement that the writer has to learn to see, capture and convey to his readers. Although he did not consider himself a novelist, in 1951 he published his first novel: El carrer Estret , which was later translated into Spanish by Nestor Lujan as La calle Estrecha . Pla demonstrates the inexhaustible power of his prose to interest and immerse the reader in a succession of images and anecdotes supposedly drawn from reality. The novel takes place in an almost abstract time that avoids any historical anecdote (absent in the book are any references to, for example, the just finished Spanish civil war or the conditions imposed by Franco’s dictatorship after the war) to focus on constant and perennial aspects of the human condition. As Joan Ferrate noticed: “in Pla’s work everyday life has a prodigious power of nostalgia; in his work is generated an extraordinarily intense feeling of dereliction and solitude soaking every minute of a human being’s life.” The street is the main character, understood as a fictional working method, becoming almost a real chronotope." @default.
