SUMMARY Purpose and significance : This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting 5 th grade students' attitudes towards performance tasks. research was done in the framework of correlation research model and the data were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression analysis. Methods: sample of the research consists of 421 5 th grade students from 10 different schools in Cankaya County, Ankara. group of students was selected among those who took Secondary Education Student Selection and Placement Exam (OKS) in 2007. data were obtained from 421 students and were collected through The Attitude Scale Related to Performance Task and Questionnaire of Student Characteristics. Results: results of the study showed that the significant predictors of students' attitudes towards performance tasks were the availability of gymnasium in the schools, assessment of performance tasks by teachers in collaboration with students, determination of the content of the performance tasks only by teachers, academic achievement of students, students' making use of different textbooks in performance tasks, students' making use of computers in performance tasks, teacher's gender, determination of the content of the performance tasks by the students, education level of students' fathers (primaryschoolgraduate fathers) , students' having 75�100 books at home. Discussion and Conclusion : In the light of these results, the following conclusions can be made. First of all, teachers should cooperate with their students and should always play a guiding role as long as they evaluate their students' performance on the tasks. Moreover, teachers, students and parents should be in cooperation in the learning process. Finally, school administrators and teachers should inform their students about how they can make the most of the facilities in the school." @default.
