- W246028130 abstract "Traffic induced vibrations greatly concern a large number of people. The author discusses the results from several recent studies and their implications. In the majority of cases, the vibration was from low frequency exhaust noise entering the building through windows subsequently exciting the structure. Spectral analysis of external noise and internal vibration recordings, made at 14 sites, has been used to show that, although the spectral shapes are similar, there was little correlation between external noise and the vibration levels on the floor of the buildings taken as a whole. However a good correlation was found when each site was considered individually and a relationship was established between external noise and vibration over the range of one-third octaves between 25 hz and 250 hz. Multiple regression analysis was used to develop equations enabling one-third octave band leq levels for traffic noise to be predicted from the total traffic flow and the percentage of heavy vehicles. This indirect relationship between traffic induced vibration inflows and the traffic causing it provides a basis for a tentative prediction method. Further work would be required to include terms for vehicle speed and distance from the kerb. (TRRL)" @default.
