Two items have been identified to influence significantly the fuel temperature distribution: fuel densification and relocation via vaporization/condensation. In the experiments DUELL and POTOM, especially designed for the investigation of fuel restructuring and power-to-melt conditions, these effects have clearly been elaborated. Fuel restructuring and related phenomena like fuel densification, cracking, crack healing and relocation have a significant impact on fuel behaviour. Experimental results and calculations, carried out with the fuel pin behaviour code SATURN-S, give a consistent picture of the time and temperature dependent fuel structure evolution" @default.
