Of these 142 cases 22 involved penetrating injuries and 120 were secondary to blunt trauma. There were 19 patients with 24 demonstrable genitourinary injuries at laparotomy. Of 15 preoperative excretory urograms 7 were abnormal in these patients with urologic injury. Only 8 of the 142 patients required an operation for the urologic injuries. The degree of hematuria did not correlate with the severity of injury. Liberal use of arteriography and renal scanning is proposed to delineate precisely the urologie injury. © 1978 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByARMENAKAS N, DUCKETT C and McANINCH J (2018) INDICATIONS FOR NONOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT OF RENAL STAB WOUNDSJournal of Urology, VOL. 161, NO. 3, (768-771), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1999.Chandhoke P and McAninch J (2018) Detection and Significance of Microscopic Hematuria in Patients with Blunt Renal TraumaJournal of Urology, VOL. 140, NO. 1, (16-18), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1988.Peters P (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 140, NO. 1, (17-18), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1988.Hardeman S, Husmann D, Chinn H and Peters P (2018) Blunt Urinary Tract Trauma: Identifying Those Patients Who Require Radiological Diagnostic StudiesJournal of Urology, VOL. 138, NO. 1, (99-101), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1987.Bretan P, McAninch J, Federle M and Jeffrey R (2018) Computerized Tomographic Staging of Renal Trauma: 85 Consecutive CasesJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 3, (561-565), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1986.Nicolaisen G, McAninch J, Marshall G, Bluth R and Carroll P (2018) Renal Trauma: Re-Evaluation of the Indications for Radiographic AssessmentJournal of Urology, VOL. 133, NO. 2, (183-186), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1985.Guerriero W (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 133, NO. 2, (186-187), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1985.
