- W2465930145 abstract "Available evidence suggests that bacteria play a significant role both prior to and after the formation of chronic ulcerations. Bacterial surveillance of intact skin, though difficult, can be a prophylactic maneuver for patients prone to develop ulcers. Once the area becomes an ulcerated lesion, treatment similar to that for burn wounds is administered. Venous hypertension, ischemia, blood dyscrasias, trauma, and diabetes mellitus all cause leg ulcers. The author emphasizes differentiation between these specific causes as the key to understanding the successful management of leg ulcers." @default.
