- W24705500 abstract "Here eiskqldy 'the heart,' represents a morsel of food, which Regin intends to eat after has roasted it over the fire. The plural usage of eiskqldy therefore, may be best explained as collective, referring to the various portions of the heart as food. Now, it will be noted that Snorri lists the plural form eiskqlld as a kenning for 'heart/ never the singular form eiskald? It is possible therefore that Snorri, who may not have been well acquainted with this rare kenning, based his example of the word directly upon its occurrence in Fm. 31, 3 and therefore listed it in the plural instead of in the singular form. (2) Slita aldri saman 'to live life together.' The usual sense of slita is 'to tear apart, rend; destroy.1 But in connection with the word for 'life* (aldri, &vi) the verb slita obviously means 'to pass, live one's life.' In this sense8 it occurs in Hlr. 14, 3 (Vit skulum okkrum/ aldri slita/ Sigurpr saman, Sigurd and I shall now live our lives [in the other world] together.), and in Fj. 50, 3 (nil's satt, es vit slita skulum/ <zvi ok aldri saman, Now" @default.
