The wetting properties of oils on parylene C in the presence an immiscible non-aqueous polar phase are first examined. The contact angle of the oil drop in this design is usually high (20° or more). A solution to improve the wetting of the oil is proposed. A direct relation between the action of low HLB (highly lipophilic) surfactants on the liquid/liquid surface energy and the contact angle is demonstrated. Last but not least, low hysteresis electrowetting systems using non-aqueous polar solvents and a high surface energy dielectric are proposed by adding low HLB surfactants in the oil (apolar) phase." @default.
