- W2471145503 abstract "While methods and materials for incorporating multiculturalism in the classroom haue been developed, teachers' attitudes toward using them haue not been fully investigated. A survey was distrib uted to instrumental teachers in the area encompassed by the East ern Division of the MENC to answer the following questions: What are the attitudes of instrumental music teachers toward multicultu ralism in general, in music classroom, and specifically in the instrumental program? All responses were tabulated on a 5-point, Likert-type scale. The results showed a positive attitude toward multiculturalism both in general, and in the music curriculum. Atti tudes were undecided toward multiculturalism in the instrumental program and toward a possible restructuring of the instrumental program to accommodate the inclusion of multicultural musics. There was no significant difference in attitude based on compari sons of area of specialty, teaching location, or grade level taught. It appears instrumental music teachers are both open to multicultu ral musics and unsure about what to do with these musics in their" @default.
