- W2472909454 abstract "Linguistic or textualist twists, hermeneutics, subjectivism, the rage against reason and science, relativism, irrationalism, and so on, are all distinctive features of postmodern interpretativism. Although the postmodern phenomenon is inherently complex, an epistemological and politico-historical examination reveals, and partly explains, certain subtle links between its obsession for texts, its rejection of science, and its (pseudo) progressive politics. Its intellectual and political effects are profound and in many ways harmful to social disciplines (particularly anthropology), since a rising nihilist fashion will end only in total sterility. The author suggests, after pointing out some of the delusive effects of radical postmodernism, an urgent return to the rational debates which have distinguished the social sciences for decades.
