- W2473256857 abstract "Disperse dyes are the major class of dyes us d in synthetic fab ic dyeing. They were developed to dye cellulose ace tate and have increased in importance with the newer synthetic fibers, some of which are more hydrophobic than cellulose acetate.1 Disperse dyes represent a heter ogeneous grouping of two major families of organic dye structures that have the prop erty of water insolubility in common.2 Disperse dyes are hydrophobic organic molecules with a slight hydrophilic ten dency. The disperse dye molecules do not solvate to any appreciable extent and tend to form aggregates or micelles up to about 2 fi in size. These micelles have a high electrostatic surface charge and remain in suspension because of electrostatic repul sion and Brownian movement. Inorganic coagulants have been found to be effective in removing dye color from textile waste waters. The chief disadvan tage of this type of coagulant is the poor dewatering characteristics of the resulting solids. At below neutral pH, the common aluminum or iron coagulants begin to form a voluminous metal hydroxide floe. Many colloidal particles will adsorb onto this floe, forming large, fast-settling particles. The metal hydroxide floe thus aids in color removal in a manner somewhat similar to" @default.
