- W2474988174 abstract "What will the web look like in 20 years and even beyond? The three authors thrive for this question and come up with a holistic analysis of the trends shaping the web, defining the next era of the web, which they call web3, and finally explaining the impact it might have on humanity. The authors start with an introduction of how we came here and today as humanity. They also briefly describe the evolution of communication, especially of the internet of the last almost 20 years. This is an important input, they build up their story on, to be able to look into the future for the next 20 years or so. The writers refer to many popular theoretical and practical well-known articles and publications, such as written by Kondratieff, Chris Anderson, Thomas Friedman, Manuel Castells, Schumpeter, Peter Drucker and many more. This gives the book a solid backing and also a professional argumentation approach. The conclusion is that the internet will continuously evolve and have a huge impact on humanity in economical, societal and technological dimensions. The authors have an optimistic standpoint and explain this approach by the wisdom of the crowds. Human kind will learn and adopt to use the evolving internet wisely and to the benefit. An important achievement / innovation of the authors is the analogy comparing the three stages of evolution of the web with the three states of matter, solid, fluid and gas. Web 1 is considered the solid form of the web, web 2.0 is the fluid form and web3 will become the gas form of the web. This analogy helps the reader a lot to visualize the evolution and better grasp how it will affect him or her. The name of the book was derived by the fact of everything is becoming more transparent. Wikileaks showed off all secrets of nations, Facebook is providing a platform for individual transparency to the extremes, and regulation is driving companies ever more transparent. To make the meaning of transparency more appealing (sexy) the word naked was used, to attract readers attention.
