- W2476532060 abstract "Students of criminal justice have before them an endless series of choices that will define their character. Thoughtful and sober control of their ethical compass is immediately important to their professional career, as all of their conduct is open to scrutiny by future employers. This is truer in the criminal justice professions than any other, given the moral fitness requirement. The first line of defense for the ethical student is learning the values and ethical requirements of their educational institution. If they cannot abide these requirements, they should seek their education elsewhere. If they have questions regarding specific prohibitions, they are encouraged to ask about them before they become a problem. The ethical student will not violate any law or code of conduct they have agreed to; they will avoid inappropriate relationships; they will avoid any situations that might cause others to violate the law or institutional codes of conduct; and they will conduct themselves professionally at all times – even in the virtual world. When asked to do something that is unethical, they will decline, and when they observe something that is unethical they will report it. The ethical student recognizes that every choice they make has a consequence and that if they fail to make the best ethical choices their career options will be limited." @default.
