- W2477031205 abstract "‘Hezekiah and Sennacherib: another deep probe’ examines the relationship between prophets and the events of their times. It considers the archaeological evidence for, and the biblical account of, the attack by the Assyrian king Sennacherib on Jerusalem in 701 bce. Jerusalem was besieged until Hezekiah surrendered and paid tribute to Sennacherib. However, the facts of the siege were subject to interpretation: according to the prophets, Jerusalem had survived through a miraculous divine slaughter of the Assyrian army, which was Yahweh's doing. This illustrates the role of the prophets as interpreters of historical events and shows how, when taken together, biblical and nonbiblical texts and archaeological data mutually enhance our understanding." @default.
