- W2477890889 abstract "Diabetic mellitus is a serious and growing health problem worldwide. Increasing evidence from both clinical and experimental studies suggests the beneficial effect of fruit and vegetable supplements as a complementary therapeutic approach in diabetes. As a consequence, the demand for natural products has increased worldwide in an attempt to provide better treatment for diabetes. Compounds containin a thiol moiety are known to be good antioxidants. L-cysteine (LC) is one of the most well known biothiols, and it is utilized in the synthesis of various important signaling molecules including glutathione (GSH) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Recent studies have shown that diabetic patients have reduced blood levels of LC and H2S. Commonly eaten fruits and vegetables are rich sources of LC and H2S. This review discusses the beneficial role of LC and H2S rich fruits and vegetables in treatment of diabetes and its associated complications." @default.
