- W2478450326 abstract "The increasing energy density in electronic components requires improved heat transfer from the component through their metallic base plates. Metal matrix composites (MMCs) with Al-Si alloys as the matrix material containing up to 70 vol.-% SiC particles are available for this purpose. Because of the dependence of the properties of this material (coefficient of thermal expansion, Young's modulus) on the distribution of the SiC particles within the composite, the determination of its microstructural characteristics and structure plays an important role in its development and manufacture. The SiC particle content is determined in three different ways, by quantitative image analysis, using wet chemical methods and by measuring the amount of CO 2 produced when the specimens are burnt in an high frequency induction furnace. The residual porosity of these materials, which can be determined quantitatively from scanning electron microscope images, also has an influence on their coefficient of thermal expansion." @default.
