- W2479461990 abstract "Extract It is very difficult to influence the work of another committee… We do not normally look at what they are doing(an official from the European Parliament's environment committee) Introduction The European Parliament is an important actor in our multi‐actor, multilevel study of policy coordination in the EU. Among other things, it provides one of the more obvious sources of political pressure needed to push other actors to collaborate in pursuit of greater EPI. It exerts itself directly through the EU policy process (where it now enjoys the power to co‐decide policy with the Council in many policy areas), as well as indirectly through a variety of other routes. More importantly for us, it has undoubtedly been a very important player in environmental policymaking, going back to the dawn of EU environmental policy in the early 1970s (Judge 2002; Burns 2005). The advent of co‐decisionmaking has given a huge boost to its ability to green individual policy proposals, both with the environmental sector as well as in cognate sectors.1 The environment committee finds itself in a particularly strong position in this respect, as it covers one‐third of all co‐decision processes in the Parliament." @default.
