- W2481724369 abstract "Owing to the activities of the meteorologists and their international cooperation daily weather-charts with forecasts for some European countries could regularly be published since the seventies of the last century. Synoptical weather-charts of the North Atlantic were brought out in company by the Danish Meteorological Institute in Copenhagen and the Deutsche Seemarte in Hamburg. On the one hand they were intended to be useful for the navigation, on the other hand for the investigation of meteorological processes. For the first time Georg Neumayer, director of the Seemarte and the German Polar commission, wanted to make such synoptical charts for the South Atlantic, but only for the period of the First Polar Year 1882-1883. Unfortunately this ambitious enterprise failed on account of pecuniary resources before it could be brought to a successful end. The voluminous correspondence remained and through it we gain an insight into the working methods, the scientific relations, and the level of the meteorology of those years" @default.
