- W2481854229 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a study conducted on monoclonal antibodies against human renal adenocarcinoma to evaluate epitopesin common with placental and fetal tissue. Monoclonal antibodies produced a specific staining of placental syncytiotrophoblast. However, reaction of these clonotypes with placenta was always associated with a very distinct immunofluorescence pattern of normal kidney tissue. In addition, similar to the findings obtained in the adult kidney, mainly epitopes of the distal tubule from fetal kidney showed a bright immunofluorescence reaction. Thus, it turned out that monoclonal antibodies, directed against antigenic sites of renal adenocarcinoma and also capable of recognizing common epitopes in placental trophoblast and fetal kidney, did not reveal the distribution pattern of antigenic sites in the kidney as should have been expected. As the newly expressed tumor-associated epitope also shares characteristic gene products with placental trophoblast, it behaves like an onco-developmental antigen and supports the idea of a certain connection between ontogeny and oncology. However, it should be emphasized that those particular products of onco-developmental gene expression may be regulated by genes responsible for the synthesis of other epitopes after the end of organogenesis in the kidney, and do not escape normal development." @default.
