- W2484984146 abstract "The ultimate success of tissue-engineered constructs after their in vivo implantation strongly depends on the rapid establishment of an efficient vascular network throughout the implant; this ensures its long-term viability and functionality. During the past two decades, tremendous effort has been dedicated to explore ways to promote, induce, or accelerate the neovascularization of three-dimensional (3D) tissue-engineered implants. In this chapter, we present an overview of the different approaches that are currently under investigation. These different strategies will be described, including in vitro approaches to promote the vascular ingrowth from the host tissue, as well as methods to either increase the cell viability in 3D constructs or produce a vascular network prior to its implantation. Finally, we will discuss the limitations of the current approaches and potential future directions." @default.
