- W2485055195 abstract "This chapter explores Stravinsky's suspicions of Hollywood and how he considered those who thought movie making an important form of artistic expression as suspicious as well. Christopher Isherwood's 1945 novella Prater Violet would provide a biting social commentary of the issues that Vienna faced in 1935. His novel satirizes certain artistic themes and distinctions that in a way characterizes both the art of film as well as Stravinsky's public persona. Despite his suspicions, however, Stravinsky obviously understood the magnitude of being a Hollywood composer. Hollywood offered the seduction of stardom, hence the question of why the image-conscious composer should not want to be affiliated with a medium whose audience grew larger each day. This chapter thus explores Stravinsky's entry into the world of movies and how this would be able to provide Stravinsky a measure of financial restitution that he had not achieved in the years previous to his immigration to America." @default.
