- W2485395350 abstract "Abstract Drawing on the work of Ignatius of Loyola and Constantine Stanislavski, chapter 2 argues that Christian formation involves being shaped by the biblical narrative as it is interpreted communally, in ways that are profoundly embodied and performative. As a director, Stanislavski trained actors to cultivate a wide array of experiences, which would be distilled over time into strong emotional memories. Through bodily disciplines, these emotions could be recalled onstage to perform a variety of theatrical roles. Stanislavski’s terminology is useful in identifying the ways that the Ignatian Exercises—as well as church liturgy—cultivate a storehouse of affections grounded in the Christian narrative of redemption, which then can be accessed through a repertoire of bodily gestures. While Stanislavski’s exercises train the actor to play a multitude of characters, Christian worship forms the person to enact a character congruent with the Christian story, in relationship with Jesus Christ." @default.
