- W2485503698 abstract "The concept of biorefining is seen as an effective route for addressing the so-called environment trilemma: the triple challenge of energy, environment, and food. In consists of the utilization of plant biomass for the production of energy, fuel, and chemicals. This approach is an inviting one because the conversion of agricultural and forestry residues and food wastes into value-added products such as biodiesel, biogas, bioethanol, animal feed, biofertilizers, bioplastics, and biomaterials finally minimizes waste production while improving the conditions of the three pillars of sustainability: environment, economy, and society. Based on feedstock, availability, and applicability of technologies and desired products, integrated biorefinery systems can process essentially all forms of biomass to produce fuels, feed, platform chemicals, and even food in the form of starch. The present chapter will discuss how integrated biorefinery systems can be used for biomass conversion for the production of fuel, food, feed, and platform chemicals with a special emphasis on platform molecules and their subsequent conversion." @default.
