- W2485686670 abstract "Subtypes of receptor recognition sites have been described for the majority of non-peptide neurotransmitters in the mammalian brain. Perhaps the only exception is the receptor for glycine, although strychnine-sensitive and insensitive sites have been suggested (Ryatl et al., 1972). Even receptors for some of the peptide neurotransmitters have been shown to be heterogeneous. For example, there appear to be two classes of receptors for substance P, designated E & P based on their preference for the substrates eledoisin and physaelamin respectively (Lee et al., 1982). Perhaps the most well documented peptide receptor subtypes are the opiate recognition sites of which there are at least 4 distinct classes which may or may not be linked to specific actions of the opiates (Martin et al., 1976; Lord et al., 1977). It is not surprising therefore, that multiple receptors should exist for GABA, an important neurotransmitter within the brain." @default.
