In this context, it is essential to understand the different models that cities use to respond to global challenges.The article presents the state of the art regarding social sciences outputs on city and globalization in the last 25 years in Portugal and its relationship to public policy. Four territorial analytical and policy models to respond to global challenges are characterized: the metropolis; the metropolitanization; the socio-cultural intermediation and the urban creativity.
