- W2486403317 abstract "Mathematical modeling covers a wide range of applications and methods. A model can be described in as any representation of a system. It can lead to summarize theoretical or practical knowledge on a subject, to conceptualize a problem, to identify shortcomings in the knowledge and to define the lines of research. Ecological modeling, started with works on the increase of a population and the interactions between two populations, tackles some questions on different organizational levels. Mathematical formalization deals with a particular class of models within the framework of system dynamics based on the representation of a process as differential equations or discrete evolution equations. Metabolic theory aims to deduce certain properties of populations and communities from the processes within an ecosystem approach. The generation and consumption of biomass enabled the evolution of biological diversity and concomitant trophic structure among ecosystems. Modeling complexity allows to assess some management policies and opens the door to ecosystem approaches." @default.
